ABOUT OUR MINISTRY
God has called us to put love into action by loving our neighbors as ourselves. Briarwood answers this call, in part, through the Mercy Ministry. Overseen by the Diaconate, the Mercy Ministry is responsible for distributing mercy funds, responding to needs of members in the community, and reaching out through mercy programs to seek the lost.
Chris Thompson, Mercy Ministry Pastor
Chris grew up attending Briarwood Christian School and went on to Samford University, where he earned a Master of Divinity, a Master of Biblical Counseling, and a Master of Biblical Studies. He began working at Briarwood in 1980 as Junior High Staff, then worked in Pastoral Care, and now serves in the Mercy Ministry. He enjoys getting to know people’s hearts as they walk through their hardest times. Showing them mercy and teaching them how to better manage their money is a rewarding process. Chris is married to Lynn Thompson, and they met at Camp Briarwood. Together, they have two adult children, Megan and Ross.

Briarwood Foster Care Ministry provides “out of home” family care for children and young persons who cannot be adequately cared for by their families due to various family problems or crises.

Love in Action
Love in Action is a charitable program set up by several area churches, to serve the needs of church and community members who have fallen into financial difficulties. Our main focus is to provide a food and clothing bank for participants. Each church screens applicants for participation and contributes financially to the mission of Love in Action.
