GENERAL ASSEMBLY REPORT

The General Assembly of the PCA was recently held in Memphis, Tennessee. This Assembly marked the 50th Anniversary of the PCA and was filled with reflections on the founding of the PCA as well as the home going of several leaders and remembrance of the Covenant Day School shooting. I personally had numerous people share that their church is praying for the Reeder Family and for Briarwood Church.

The tone of the Assembly was very positive with the Stated Clerk reporting that the PCA is back on a trajectory of slow growth after some declines during the Covid years. I was very encouraged to hear that the PCA is seeing growth in the number of men that are candidates for the ministry and in those who wish to be involved in church planting. This is great news!

Reverend Fred Greco from Katy, Texas was elected moderator. If there ever was a pastor whose personal gifting was to be a moderator, I think it is Fred.

The Assembly approved several changes to our Book of Church Order (BCO) which help clarify our position with regard to current cultural issues. These changes clearly speak to the importance of progressive sanctification and add clarity regarding requirements for being an elder or deacon. In my opinion this was a significant step for the peace and purity of the PCA.

The Assembly also approved an excellent Overture which will have the PCA petition the government to condemn the practice of surgical and medical gender reassignment, especially in minors.
