Briarwood Pulpit Committee
Briarwood Church Family,
Thank you so much for your thoughtful and prayerful response to the call by our Session to submit nominations for the Pulpit Committee. Our Nominating Committee’s work is complete, and the Lord has blessed greatly! We are pleased to submit the Pulpit Committee slate for your consideration, and we ask that you vote yes on Sunday to approve this slate.
Background
Our congregation submitted several hundred names for consideration. The Nominating Committee was tasked by the Session with receiving these submissions, developing a 12-person slate that fulfills the approved make-up of the Pulpit Committee, and presenting the slate at our Congregational Meeting that has been called for this Sunday, August 25, during the morning worship services for your vote. In addition to the 12 members on the slate for the Committee, the 2 alternates will also be listed. We began meeting to discuss our process and criteria for filling the slate as determined by the Session before we knew any names of nominees, and we are extremely grateful for the contributions of each team member. We had great conversations and in the end, we were unanimous in our decisions, and maintained a wonderful spirit of cooperation and unity.
As a reminder, the 2024 Nominating Committee that was tasked with populating the the Pulpit Committee slate includes the following members: Ruling Elders: Lance Radbill, Don Hendry, Steve Gathings, and Tim Scott; Deacons: Tim Ayers, Scott Summers, Jonathan Sanders; Pastors: Benny Parks, Benny Youngblood; Dr. Doriani, Mrs. Kelly Buck, and Mrs. Audrey Jowers.
The exact makeup of the Pulpit Committee, as decided by the Session, will consist of 4-5 Ruling Elders, 2-3 Deacons, 2-3 Women, at least 1 member representing the 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, and 70s, and at least 1 member representing our Singles ministry.
It is my privilege to present to you the 12-member Pulpit Committee slate with the 2 alternates to be voted on this Sunday, August 25, 2024, to find our next Pastor. Copies of the slate for your vote will be available on Sunday as you enter the Worship Center. These must be placed in the boxes around the Worship Center by the conclusion of the 10:55 service.

In addition, I am reminded of the words from Executive Pastor Bruce Stallings when he last addressed the congregation. “Ask the Lord to even now give you a love for our next Senior Pastor. We don’t know who that man is, but God does.”
